A whole team of GreatMountain Trav'ler pups! (2005)

We train our puppies to pull by running them with an experienced lead dog. When they are 5-6 months old, they can begin to learn to wear a harness and work on a team but they cannot pull weight. Training like this gives the pups a chance to see how it's done without stressing their growing bodies.

These photos are from our first sprint race on snow on February 5, 2000 at the Maine State Sled Dog Championships in Bridgeton, Maine. The dogs worked hard and had a fun time on this 4.5 mile course. The team finished in last place, but they finished!
