GreatMountain Belfast Litter We hope you'll enjoy the weekly photos of
the pups. |
Welcome to the World! On November 27, 2009, Hurricane Nokomis Dream whelped eight beautiful puppies - 3 girls and 5 boys! The proud papa of this purebred litter is AspenCreek Belfast Blue. Belfast is named after Belfast, Maine. In honor of his first litter, the pups are all named after places near Belfast, Maine! The pups all arrived without incident. The birth was assisted by Joy, Penthea's 10 year old niece. Joy got to deliver a couple of puppies and shot a wonderful video of Moody being born. Click here to watch the video. All of the pups have gone to their new homes. |
| Going Home - Final Entry The weather this final week with the pups was the big story. We had two back-to-back storms, one dropping 14 inches of snow, the other 6 inches. We had to shovel the puppy yard before sending the pups out to eat and play or they would have drowned in the snow! The trenches in the snow made for a fun puppy speedway, where races and fun games of chase took place. The week was full of taking care of final details before new owners arrived. There was DNA to be collected, kennel cough vaccine to be administered, nails to be clipped, etc. The pups were troopers through it all. With preparations all complete, it was time to start cooking in anticipation of the arrival of new owners. We always have a puppy party and try to get as many owners as possible to arrive at once for a shared meal, a final walk and an opportunity to meet one another. We had only met half of the owners. We're always nervous sending pups off with folks we haven't met and have to rely heavily on interviews and references to make these decisions. As owners started arriving one-by-one, it became clear that all was right with the world and that all of these pups would have wonderful new owners! Stud-muffin, Belfast, joined us for the puppy party, so new owners got a chance to meet him and JoAnne got a chance to meet all of the new owners. We were so pleased that Connie & Bob Jones, who co-own Belfast, also joined us for the party. We all enjoyed a fun play session with the pups, shared some great food, talked about the pups as a group and then went off for a long walk with the pups and big dogs. Somehow, between the puppy romping and the walk, talk turned seriously to whether Waldo might go home with Connie & Bob to join the WoodsRunner pack. Two hours later, he was driving down the driveway with them! None of us saw this coming, but it sure did feel like the right thing! As Connie wrote later in the day, "Note to self- next puppy party one attends, make sure all puppies have homes!" With all of the pups gone, it's a lot quieter! Strider is wondering where her playmates have gone, but has already acclimated to pack life, so will adjust quickly. We weren't quite ready to be puppy-less so are feeling a little sad, but are also so excited to get our lives back to normal! 10 weeks of puppies is enough for anyone! We hope you enjoyed our pupdates. Watch our graduate page for updates on this litter. |
