March 23rd to April 1st - The Coyote & the Fox

At the start of this week, we still had nearly a foot of snow on the ground.  Warm temperatures have melted away nearly all of the snow in the fields, but the trails remain hard-packed snow covered in the woods.  The dogs are enticed by the new scents and sights on our daily walks.  The turkeys have started feeding in our back field - in the past we've seen over 60 turkeys visit our bird feeders in our front yard!  The buds on the trees are clearly seen against the sky now and we're excited to see the robins hopping around on the ground.

For months, we've been enjoying regular visits from a pregnant coyote.  We enjoy watching her hunt for moles and mice.  Today, marked the return of a local fox.  We haven't seen her for over a year.  She also looks pregnant.  We are very hopeful that we'll see some pups at some point in the coming months.

March 23rd - look at the snow and her sagging belly!

Six days after these coyote photos were taken, the exact same spot is devoid of snow!

A trickster visitor for April Fools Day!
